WPDOGS v1.6
============
By: Marcus Trisdale
WHAT IS WPDOGS:
WPDOGS is an On-Line game for ANY BBS system. It is a dog racing
simulation. It simulates a great american pastime... gambling! You view
stats of the dogs and select which ones you would like to bet on as well as
what kind of bet you wish to make. It has all the bets of the real races as
well as the same prices.
The dogs in the races are rated for speed and fatigue. This makes the
simulation as real as possible. The same dog will not win everytime. But a
fast dog will run well most of the time. If a really bad dog runs against a
really good dog, you can rest assured, the faster dog will more than likely
win the race!
FEATURES OF WPDOGS:
- Carrier Detection - The game will know if someone drops carrier and
react accordingly.
- Local Aware - If you play locally, the game will detect this from
the dropfile. No need to use /L switch if you have a dropfile
available for local use.
- Multi-Node Support - This game has record and file locking built in.
- Multiple drop file compatibility - WPDOGS supports 7 dropfile
formats.
- Local switch - Can be played without a dropfile by using the /L
switch.
- Error Help - Error help is built into the program. If an error
occurs, a help file will automatically be created.
- Inactivity Timeout - If a user falls asleep or walks away from the
terminal, the game will wait 3 minutes then give a 10 second warning
before automatically quitting.
If an error occurs while WPDOGS is running, an error file named
WPDOGS.ERR will be created. This file will tell you what error number occured
and it will also give you a hint or two on what happenned and how it may be
fixed. If an error occurs that you cannot fix or continually occurs. Please
let me know, I will do my best to ammend the problem. I will need the
information in the WPDOGS.ERR file.
SETUP:
To use WPDOGS use the following command line:
WPDOGS wpdogs.cfg [/L]
| | |
| | -This switch tells the program to play in local mode.
| | so that you do not have to have a dropfile. Though you
| | still have to have a configuration file.
| |
| -This is the configuration file. It can have any name. This is so
| multi-node BBS's can have a different configuration file for each
| node of the BBS.
|
-This is the filename of the door program itself.
WPDOGS uses the following dropfiles: DOOR.SYS, DORINFOx.DEF, INFO.BBS,
CALLINFO.BBS, SFDOOR.DAT, CHAIN.TXT, and PCBOARD.SYS. If your dropfile is
not supported you will need one of the many dropfile converters out on the
market. Also, I would like you to send me a description of your dropfile so
that I can support your dropfile.
The WPDOGS configuration file has the following format (Though you may use the
provided EDITDOGS program to create the configuration file):
example config file (WPDOGS.CFG):
Wolves' Den BBS

Description:
Line 1: BBS Name
Line 2: Sysop Name
Line 3: Pathname of your dropfile
Line 4: Pathname of ANSI highscore file to generate
Line 5: Pathname of ASCII highscore file to generate
Line 6: Comm Port (If your Comm Port is 1-4 just put the number, if your comm
port is a non-standard port, put the HEX address. If you are using a
fossil driver (or a DIGI board or something like that) then put the
port # and be sure to set the FOSSIL to "Y".
Line 7: IRQ - If you are using a fossil driver set this switch to 0.
Line 8: Fossil Driver used? "Y" = Yes "N" = No
Line 9: Locked comm port speed. If your commport is locked, set this to "Y"
if not, set to "N". Basically if your modem supports RTS/CTS hand-
shaking (error correcting) then set this to "Y".
Line 10:Registration Code. This is where you put your registration code after
you register. If you are not registered, set it to 0.
EDITDOGS:
This is a utility program I have written to help the Sysop with this
program. It can be used to create your configuration file(s), reset the dogs
in the game, and reset the user files and highscore files. After
registration, this program will also allow the Sysop to edit/add/remove the
dogs as well as edit the users.
When you select reset dogs, it will reset all the dogs' stats to 0,
and it will reschool the dogs, giving them new stats.
Selecting reset user file, will delete the user file. Effectively
resetting the highscores as well.
Once you register WPDOGS, then you will need to start editdogs with
the configuration file to enable the registered functions. Example:
EDITDOGS wpdogs.cfg
This is necessary to check the registration number against the sysop
name.
REGISTRATION:
Registration of this program is only $20. Registering will remove the
unregistered delays in the program as well as enabling the added functions in
the EDITDOGS programs. Registration will be good for all future versions of
the program, which I have many plans for. Read the In The Future section.
IN THE FUTURE:
What I have planned for this program is exciting. I can't wait
myself, which is what should tell you that support for this program will be
around for quite a while. Planned Additions:
1 - Races of different lengths (ie the real tracks have 5/16, 3/8, &
7/16 lengths).
2 - User owned kennels. I want the users to be able to own kennels
so that they can have dogs and train them. Then they can take
their dogs up the ranks deciding which length races they should
be in. Then tournaments can be set up as well as having CUP races
where champion dogs can be decided.
3 - Multiple poeple playing at the same time can bet on the same
races, being able to race their dogs against each other.
4 - Kennel owners can borrow money from the bank as well as many
other kennel owner functions.
5 - And many more which I have not even thought of yet! Let me know
what YOU want.
To register:
Send a check or money order for $20 and the name you wish the
program to be registered to (must be at least 8 characters and
it must be the name in the Sysop field of the configuration file) to:
Marcus Trisdale
802 Thrasher Ct.
Hinesville, GA 31313
I will send you your registration code immediately.
BUGS & IMPROVEMENTS:
If you find a bug in this program, PLEASE let me know. No bug is too
small. Even if it is a little spelling mistake. I want to know if I forgot
to dot an "I" (oh yeah, it's typed). If you have an improvement you would
like to see, let me know as well. Any idea is accepted (whether it is
included is another thing!).
TO CONTACT ME:
If you would like to contact me about any of my programs or to just
shoot the breeze, just drop me an E-Mail.
